A standalone CGM gives real-time glucose data, but staff must physically check the receiver. An integrated system pushes data straight to a nurse's station or cloud dashboard. The price gap used to be enormous; it's now roughly $300–700 more per patient per year for integrated (pricing verified through two distributors, October 2024).

In June 2024, we ran a 60-day time-motion study at a facility with 10 residents on CGMs. The integrated setup cost about $3,200 more per year, but it saved an estimated 11 hours of nursing time per month. One last thing, and I mean this sincerely. The vendors who treat small orders seriously are the ones who earn loyalty. When I was running supply for a two-chair dental practice, the distributors who treated my $250 orders like they mattered are the ones I still recommend years later—now that I handle contracts a thousand times larger.
