How to Buy Medical Supplies Without Overspending: A 7-Step Procurement Checklist

Those teams operate with a completely different set of pressures. Step 3: Match Order Volumes to Clinical Utilization — Not Last Year's Orders

Here's where the boring data does the heavy lifting.

Take the question of how often dental x-rays should happen. That's not something I deal with directly, since our network doesn't include dental. But in 2024, the procurement manager at our sister organization rebuilt their x-ray imaging consumables budget from scratch. Instead of reordering based on historical volume, they sat down with the dentists, reviewed the ADA radiographic guidelines, and mapped them to the practice's actual patient mix.
